[Chapter 5] Section 2
1. Attaching the hook of fall arrest equipment
In work using fall arrest equipment, there is a risk of a fall due to the hook coming off if the hook is not used correctly.
(1) When a fall occurs, the load due to the fall is applied to the hook vertically. The hook will come off more easily if force is applied to the hook’s latch or side surface.
(2) Refer to the figure below regarding attachment of the hook. In inspection before starting work, etc., attach the hook to the hook mounting equipment and pull to check the hooking status. Don’t forget that force is applied downward when a fall occurs.
*Avoid attachment by wrapping around if at all possible because this may damage the hook and rope.
Practical skill:
Attach the hook to a specific point and pull downward.
At this time, do “pointing and calling.” Say: “The position of the hook is facing downward: Okay!”
It is effective to pair off, and repeat each other.
